These things will ruin your good night’s sleep

We all know by now that a good night’s sleep is important for a good and healthy life. But everyone has a restless night from time to time. And that can have a number of causes. I’ll mention a few of them!

  1. Room temperature

It’s of course nice to lie in a warm room, but it can also keep you up at night. If the temperature is too high or too low, you sleep restlessly and your rhythm is disrupted. The best room temperature for a good night’s sleep is between 18-22 degrees. A little fresh air in your room also works wonders!

2. Snack time at night

Unfortunately, your body needs a rhythm and that’s disrupted if you eat something late at night. With a full stomach you may sleep faster (after all, it makes you tired), but also restless because your stomach is busy digesting.

3. No sports

Exercising takes energy and it makes you tired. This allows you to sleep much better, because your body needs that rest. Your body even burns calories when you sleep!

4. Checking time

Sometimes you startle awake or you have to go to the toilet. You often take a quick look at the time to see how long you can still sleep. This gets your brain to work and wake up from sleep mode.

5. Screens

Whether it’s your phone, laptop, tablet or television: the blue light from a screen makes you less sleepy. So try to distance yourself from your screen an hour before you go to sleep. For example, rather read an exciting book.

6. Wash face with cold water

This will actually wake you up! Your body is frightened by the cold. But beware: too hot water isn’t good either. It’s therefore better to wash your face with lukewarm water.

7. Sleeping too long

On the weekend it’s tempting to lie down for a long time. It’s just not good for you. Your body gets used to the rhythm of getting up early and if you don’t do it at the weekend, it gets confused. This not only makes it more difficult to fall asleep at night, but it’s also more difficult to get up early for the rest of the week.

8. Phone close to your bed

Messages you receive at night and read in the morning still unconsciously wake you up. Your brain receives stimuli from the lights and sounds that come from your phone. Therefore, put your phone on silent and put it far away. Preferably on the other side of your bedroom.
