Tips to immediately reduce feelings of stress (or most of it)

Sometimes stress can suddenly run high and you don’t know what to do to reduce this feeling. Trust me, I speak from experience on more than one occasion. That’s why I’ve listed a few useful tips for you in case you’re experiencing the same thing!

  1. Get moving

Stress can cause you to do nothing for a while because you’re too anxious. Try to get some exercise in and you’ll notice that you’ll feel a little better. Go outside for a short walk. The combination of fresh air and exercise provides more relaxation and, therefore, you’re more capable of solving the problems you’re facing afterwards.

2. Vent

If you keep your worries bottled up most of the time, a problem will unconsciously get bigger and bigger. By talking to someone about it, you’ll notice that your stress decreases. Someone can reassure you or offer you a possible solution. It often helps enormously if someone listens to you.

3. Write it off

Not everyone is the same. Maybe you’re someone who’s good at writing and articulating things. If you’re having a hard time making a decision, it can help to make lists. Write down the pros and cons of possible choices on paper. This allows you to look at a situation or problem more objectively.

4. Hug a loved one

By hugging someone, your body produces oxytocin. This is the cuddle hormone that often makes you feel safe and calm. You’ll notice that the stress decreases a bit on its own. Someone who comforts you without saying anything directly can often be enough to make you feel just a little bit better.
