Tips to start your own blog

As someone who has been blogging since August 2014, I think it’s safe to say that I have quite the knowledge about this particular subject! And today is the day, that I share my precious tips with you to start your own blog!

1. Set the goal

Before you start writing fanatically, it’s of course important that you have a goal in mind. Why do you want to blog, what do you want your blog to be about and what do you want to achieve with these blogs? It’s important to think about this. A concrete plan can help you with this, instead of just starting somewhere. Also, keep in mind that it takes a lot of time to start and maintain a blog.

2. Web hosting and domain

When you’ve spent several nights sleeping on the purpose of your blog, it’s time to purchase web hosting and come up with a domain name. A web hosting is actually a server that your website can run on. For example, you can opt for a web hosting package that supports WordPress. WordPress is a CMS where you can easily build and maintain a website. But before you start building a website, it’s important to come up with a domain name. A domain name is simply the name of the website, such as ‘google.com’. The domain name should be able to tell what your blog is about. Do you have a domain name in mind? Then the next step is to check if the domain name is still available. If so, you can register it.

3. Fill your website

It’s now important to find your way in the CMS system that you’ve chosen. You can then fill your website with content. Write a number of blogs, but also think of a page where you tell a bit about yourself, a page with a privacy statement, and a cookie banner. A search bar is also useful, as is a field where people can leave a comment or contact you. Make sure this is on your website before you go live with your site. Of course, visitors don’t want to visit an empty website.

4. Be patient

Finally, patience is a virtue. You’ll often have to fill your blog with new content to attract visitors. And in the beginning, you’ll certainly put some effort into guiding your blog to success. After all, you have to distinguish yourself from the rest of the bloggers.
