The most common mistakes made on a first date

A first date is never easy. We all make mistakes, but you could avoid them. How? By knowing what the most common mistakes are that can make a first date a little awkward.

  1. Talk about yourself

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with a little confidence, but try not to overdo it. Especially on a first date, talking too much about yourself can create the wrong impression.

2. Phone usage

Nowadays no one can live without a phone, but it can be a turn-off if you look at your phone on a first date. This gives the impression that you’re not interested in the other person. A work email or a text from a friend can wait a while.

3. Alcohol

Of course, one glass of wine can calm your nerves a bit, but drinking too much can be a turn-off. No one wants a drunk date. Literally no one.

4. No questions

Who doesn’t like to talk about their own life? Therefore, ask questions to get to know the person across from you at the table. It can seem rude if you don’t ask the other person any questions during a date.

5. Too late

Of course, things may not go as planned, but always try to be on time during a first date. And if you know you’re gonna be late, message your date that you’re running late and apologise as soon as you see them.

6. Ex talk

This may seem like a no-brainer, but try to avoid the subject of exes as much as possible on a first date. After all, you want your date to feel special, not like they’re simply the next choice.
