The thoughts you have on a first date

A first date is always very exciting! Will it turn out to be something great? And perhaps more importantly: won’t it get awkward? This all goes through your mind during a first date!

  1. Am I overdressed?

After a long search of throwing clothes all around your room, you finally put on your best outfit. Once on the road, you start to doubt again: am I not overdressed? Perhaps I should have put on something else? Too late now!

2. Breath and teeth

Do I have bad breath? Is there something stuck in my teeth? The first is a real turn-off, trust me. Fortunately, there’s such a thing as chewing gum. Oh, and toothpicks.

3. Fashionably late

That’s way better than showing up too early, right? Then I might come across as intrusive, or maybe even desperate. Just a couple of minutes late will do the trick.

4. Is that my date?

This can mean two things. Either your date is way hotter than you anticipated, or it’s not the one you were waiting for. Whoever it may be, keep calm. Inhale, and exhale. Don’t stare too long, just act normal. As you always do.

5. Staring

Am I looking at them for too long? Or is it too short and should I stare longer…? What should I do? I don’t want to be silenced! Relax, they’re nervous too. It’ll all go well. Just enjoy it.

6. Laughing

I may be laughing a little too enthusiastically because of the nerves. Or is my hiccuping laugh starting to show? Don’t stress! If they really like you, then they’ll fall in love with your laugh and smile.

7. Do I look okay?

Hopefully, my mascara didn’t run… And it didn’t leave any streaks… It’s so hot in here, or is it just me? I didn’t stain my outfit, did I? Relax, you can just excuse yourself to the bathroom and check. Worrying about it won’t make your date go any easier.

8. What do I say?

We’ve been chatting all the time, but do they find me interesting? Maybe I should tell them about that one time… Okay, maybe I shouldn’t do that. And never ever talk about your exes!

9. How do I say goodbye?

“I absolutely loved this evening!” That sounds so cliché… ”Thanks for the nice evening?” That sounds so trite… Just say whatever comes to mind. There’s no right or wrong in this scenario. The way you say it matters more than what you’re saying.

10. A hug or a kiss?

This one is always a hard decision. Going for a hug might give off the fact that you’re not interested, but not everyone fancies a kiss on the first date. And while waiting for the other to make the first move, they’re probably waiting for you to do the same. It always ends up awkward, so don’t worry about this too much.
