I listened to this band when I was a nerdy emo in high school. Okay, I still listen to them. Anyway, they were on my small MP3 player back then, and I couldn’t wait to finally see them perform live after they quit in 2013. And it was finally time!
They performed in Rotterdam Ahoy, and my god what a terrible location is that. Sure, traffic was also the worst I’ve ever experienced, but it’s just so unlogical there. Finding seats is super hard, being directed towards the exit is even more terrible, and Rotterdam itself is just a city I’ve never liked. We couldn’t find the parking garage, despite using navigation, and kept driving in circles. Then, we had to wait 30 minutes to even get inside. Not the best experience. So, my hopes were all set on the concert itself at this point.
They had a support act called Starcrawler, which we missed considering it took us super long to get there and to even get inside with the lines forming the letter s in three directions. We left early, but traffic was terrible, and still ended up almost being too late. I also wanted to buy their special tour shirt, but the line was way too long and I figured that it was probably gonna be sold out anyway. So, I went home empty-handed. By the way, don’t know if I mentioned this, but the ‘we’ in this case were me and a friend. We went to this concert together. I drove for 6 hours total that day because my friend doesn’t have her driver’s license.
They performed 19 songs for us that night.
- The Foundations of Decay
- This Is How I Disappear
- Give ‘Em Hell, Kid
- Bulletproof Heart
- Boy Division
- Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na)
- It’s Not a Fashion Statement, It’s a Fucking Deathwish
- Vampire Money
- Thank You for the Venom
- Famous Last Words
- Welcome to the Black Parade
- Skylines and Turnstiles
- I’m Not Okay (I Promise)
So, here comes my honest review. I expected way more of the concert. It was supposed to be a reunion tour, but it felt very forced. They appeared very tired, and they hadn’t even played that many shows yet. And I don’t know, Gerard didn’t seem to have much fun whilst performing. He wished someone in the crowd a happy birthday with a pretty loud sigh, and when given something to wear, he claimed it was too hot to do so. I don’t know, I expected a bit more ‘connection’ with us fans in the crowd. And they opened the concert with their new song, which sounded pretty false from the start. But, I did love Gerard’s way of performing theatrics. That has always been his selling point. And I did enjoy that. He’s by the way not terrible live, but it just wasn’t good. I was a bit disappointed, yet still happy I got a chance to see them live.
