Easy tips to save water (and money)!

Now that there’s (almost) officially a water shortage, you probably want to do your part to not use water unnecessarily. While you don’t have to worry about running out of drinking water, there are things you can do to conserve water!

  1. Only run a dishwasher or washing machine when the machine is full and preferably on the eco-program if the laundry isn’t too dirty.
  2. Install a water-saving shower head and/or faucet.
  3. Place a bowl or tub in the sink if you use water and collect the water, for example when washing vegetables. You can use this later to water the plants, for example. It’s better to rinse away the water when washing your hands.
  4. Fallen ice cubes can be placed between the plants.
  5. Use the same glass more often during the day. This saves some dishes.
  6. Don’t open the tap fully when in use.
  7. Try to limit showers to five minutes. Or try showering two minutes shorter to save 500 liters of water per month.
  8. Turn off the tap when brushing your teeth.
  9. Repair leaking faucets. One drop per second is equivalent to 15 liters of water per day.
  10. Rinse a razor blade in a bowl of water instead of under a running tap.
  11. Postpone washing the car for a while.
  12. Water the garden less frequently. And if you water it, preferably do it early in the morning or late at night.
  13. Get the weeds out of your garden so they don’t suck up the water from the plants.
  14. Collect rainwater in a rain barrel so that you can use it for the plants.
  15. Reuse the pool water from the pool in the garden. For example, use it to water the garden.
