Concert

22 June 2022: Green Day concert

My friend is a huge fan of Green Day and asked me (two years ago) if I wanted to tag along. I do like their music genre, but only knew three songs. I also knew Fall Out Boy would join them, so I said yes! And after 2 years of waiting, we could finally go! Here’s the review!

We first got some ice cream and ate pizza together to make sure we were well taken care of before walking towards where the concert would take place. It was the first time I had an actual concert outside, in Stadspark Groningen. It was very busy like you normally see during festivals, and that was pretty annoying at times. But I’ll get to that later. Anyway, my friend really enjoyed herself and that was all that mattered to me while I tried to keep us safe. I’ll also explain that a bit better later on.

They had three support acts. We didn’t see the first two, which were Amyl & The Sniffers and Wheezer, but we did see a bit of Fall Out Boy. Fall Out Boy ended quite quickly, and thus Green Day started a bit earlier too, which resulted in the concert being done earlier as well.

Fall Out Boy performed 15 songs:

  • The Phoenix
  • Sugar, We’re Goin’ Down
  • Irresistible
  • Uma Thurman
  • Grand Theft Autumn/Where Is Your Boy
  • Save Rock and Roll
  • The Last of the Real Ones
  • Dance, Dance
  • A Little Less Sixteen Candles, a Little More “Touch Me”
  • This Ain’t a Scene, It’s an Arms Race
  • My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up)
  • I Don’t Care
  • Thnks fr th Mmrs
  • Centuries
  • Saturday

Green Day performed 21 songs:

  • American Idiot
  • Holiday
  • Know Your Enemy
  • Boulevard of Broken Dreams
  • Longview
  • Welcome To Paradise
  • Hitchi’ a Ride
  • Rock and Roll All Nite (KISS cover)
  • Brain Stew
  • St. Jimmy
  • When I Come Around
  • 2000 Light Years Away
  • 21 Guns
  • Minority
  • Knowledge (Operation Ivy cover)
  • Basket Case
  • King for a Day
  • Shout (The Isley Brothers cover)
  • Wake Me Up When September Ends
  • Jesus of Suburbia
  • Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)

So, they sound amazing live. Billie has an amazing voice and the instruments weren’t overpowering anyone else. That was very well done because there are often concerts where one or the other just overpowers someone else’s instrument. And Billie is a very lovely entertainer, which is very adorning and lovely to see. But I’ll honestly admit I couldn’t enjoy the concert the way I would’ve loved to. I was busy trying to look around me the whole time because I heard rumours of needle spiking being a thing. And I wanted to make sure both my friend and I would be safe. I also knew only three songs, and the rest was just something I moved along to a bit. But also not that much because I preferred staying still to keep an eye out for any suspicious behaviour. I’d rather enjoy the concert less than be drugged. And it was also a bit too crowded for me, which moshpits happening as well. And of course beer showers. Though we were spared of those. You could just witness how long people have stayed inside due to Covid. They were all a bit too rough for my taste. But I still had a good time knowing my friend had a good time. Protection mode worked well, and safety goes above fun, I’d say.

Love, Skye Lewis ❤
