Sometimes a situation makes you so angry, that you’d rather punch someone straight in the face. I say that’s not the way. I, therefore, give you tips on how to deal with your anger.
- Walk away
When you’re angry, you’re often focused on the situation or the person that’s making you angry. You zoom in all the way, as it were, and you see every detail. As difficult as it may be, try to walk away from the situation for a while. Take a walk or at least provide a different environment.
2. Be creative
Once you’ve stepped out of the situation, you can calm down by doing something completely different for a while. Listen to music, paint or do your favourite workout. While doing this, try looking at the situation from multiple perspectives. Is there a healthy solution so that the whole thing doesn’t escalate?
3. Breathing
With the help of your breathing, you can easily calm yourself. When you’re angry, you don’t get enough oxygen. So, pay extra attention to your breathing and try to breathe deeply. The tension will then drop, your heart rate will slow down and you’ll experience more control again.

4. Talk about it
Sometimes you just need to get your anger out by talking to someone. Someone you feel comfortable with and who may be neutral hearing about the situation. By ventilating, you feel calmer and you get a better overview.
5. Find a distraction
If you don’t know what to do and there are no people around with whom you can vent, it’s always good to look for a distraction. Take a walk, try a new hobby or lose yourself in a good book. Either way, your anger will subside.

Als de rust terug gekeerd is in je dan ook eens zoeken hoe het komt dat je zo boos was.
Boosheid is een gevoel en soms is het juist omdat iemand je op het gevoel pakt.
