This happens to your body if you eat fewer added sugars

Whether you want to lose weight or not: cutting back on sugar brings benefits for everyone. This is what happens to your body when you leave products with added sugar for a week.

  1. Less risk of type 2 diabetes

People who eat a lot of products with added sugars run a higher risk of developing overweight. This also increases the risk of type 2 diabetes. A healthy lifestyle can prevent obesity and therefore type 2 diabetes in many cases. A healthy diet helps with this. Choose healthy, fresh, and unprocessed products more often and consume fewer products with added sugars.

2. Losing weight is easier

Did you know that 1 gram of sugar equals 4 calories? Sugary drinks, such as soft drinks and fruit juices, are a big culprit. They aren’t satiating, but they do provide a lot of calories. Leaving one glass of soft drink saves about 100 kcal!

3. More energy

If you’re going to cut back on added sugars, that often means: more energy! If you eat a lot of sugar, you may eat less healthy products, which can lead to a shortage of fiber, vitamins, and minerals. This can give you a headache or make you tired. The sugar peaks and troughs that you get when you eat foods with sugar also cost your body a lot of energy. As soon as you stop eating sugary products and choose more healthy, fresh, and unprocessed products, you’ll notice a difference. Your blood sugar level becomes a lot more stable, making you feel fitter, more energetic, and happier.

4. You sleep better

Many people who cut back on sugar notice that they sleep better. Not only will this make you feel less tired, but it’ll also improve your mood.

5. Fewer stomach aches

Eating a lot of sugary products can have a negative effect on your stomach and intestines. The fructose (fruit sugar) in sugar can cause you to suffer from flatulence, diarrhea, or bloating. The solution? Cut back on sugar.

  1. Such great information! I’ve been doing better at cutting back sugar and can say I do feel a lot better, sleep better and have a much better outlook on so many things. I do find I get headaches if I do have too much sugar the day before, so it’s something I definitely will continue to monitor!

      1. Yes! I’ve never had the mindset as I do now and a lot of it is thanks to the program my health insurance is offering. I don’t count calories but I sure watch the ingredients a lot more now. I had always been one that loved sugary foods and drinks but now definitely not so much. 😊

      2. I never really liked that stuff, but occasionally had something here and there. We still need sugar to function, but cutting down on added sugars improves so many things!
