My friend Maggie gives massage and wax services and asked me if she could share this article considering the summer isn’t too far away from us. I said yes! So, take it away, Maggie!
- Period time
Waxing is of course no fun, but if you do it around your period, it can be even more painful. During this period, the entire area around your hips is much more sensitive, and that’s of course not nice if you’re planning to take a bikini wax.
2. Scrubbing too enthusiastically
If you want to prevent ingrown hairs, it’s important to exfoliate your skin. However, it’s better not to do this immediately after hair removal. Wait about two to three days with this and also use a not too aggressive scrub. Your skin is very sensitive after waxing.
3. No medication check
It’s wise to always check with the salon before your wax appointment whether the medicines you’re taking can cause problems. Medications such as steroids or acne medications such as Accutane thin your skin, so waxing can cause significant skin irritation.
4. Drinking alcohol
It may seem like a good idea to drink a glass of wine beforehand against the stress, but it’s better not to do this. Alcohol contains ingredients that make your skin even more sensitive and that’s of course the last thing you want. So, wait with the alcohol until after your treatment.
5. Spray tan before waxing
What could be nicer than smooth hairless skin and a nice tan? However, it’s better to wait a little longer with a spray tan. The wax doesn’t only adhere to your hair, but also to the top layer of your skin. Your new colour will therefore be removed immediately. That’s why it’s better to go for a spray tan after waxing, although it’s wise to do this at least 24 hours later.
6. Sauna or steam room
If there’s one thing you can do to relax, it’s a visit to the sauna or steam room. However, it’s better not to do this before waxing. The heat can cause irritation and redness. In addition, your pores, which open due to the heat, are even more susceptible to infections and ingrown hairs. This also applies to a hot bath, so postpone things like this for at least 24 hours after your treatment.
