A creative hobby – such as crocheting or knitting – isn’t only a fun pastime, it can benefit your health in many ways. Which ways? Let me tell you all about them!
- No stress
A hobby ensures that you don’t have to deal with the obligations of daily life and that you can move your thoughts. No stress or negative emotions that control you. And a nice side effect: this effect appears to last for days.
2. Positive performance
The research shows that having a hobby can improve your job performance. Not only do you learn new skills, but it also helps you to think more creatively. Win-win!
3. More confidence
Anyone who often practices their hobby will notice that it’s getting better and better. You can play a few more songs on the guitar or become handier at crocheting. Time and again you achieve small successes until you get to the point where you can feel really confident about what you’re doing. How beautiful is that!

4. Low blood pressure
You may not immediately expect it, but your physical health will also reap the benefits of your hobby. It doesn’t matter what you do, as long as you enjoy it. Research has shown that undertaking a pleasurable activity leads to lower blood pressure, a healthier BMI, and less cortisol.
5. More luck
The research was conducted in 2017 into the feeling of happiness among six thousand Dutch, Canadian, American, and Danish people. The result? Although many people think that watching television in their spare time makes them happy, practicing a hobby or sport makes for a much greater feeling of happiness.
6. Good memory
It’s clear that chess and puzzles can keep your brain healthy. But did you know that creative hobbies can just as well contribute to a better memory? Using both hands makes your brain work harder. In addition, the substance dopamine is produced when we do something we enjoy.
