Most people are obsessed with Emily in Paris (can’t say I am for I haven’t watched a single episode of this series), but it did make me wonder what the most popular dog breeds are in France. So, why not take a look at them?
- Basset hound
The basset hound has short legs and beautiful long ears. Basset is derived from the word Bas, which means low. This French dog breed isn’t just cute, but also very intelligent and sociable. Also, these dogs are calm, affectionate, and gentle.
2. Briard
The briard is a lively, large appearance. This dog breed is very furry and sometimes you have to look closely to catch a small glint in his eyes. The briard is watchful, courageous, and often a bit dominant.
3. Bordeaux dog
This large dog breed was often used for fights with dogs and wolves. This is why these dogs are still often used as guard dogs.
4. Barbet
The barbet is a French water dog. The dog gets its name from its beard. Barbe means beard. The Barbet is a very old breed, from which the poodle originated. These dogs are often very friendly, balanced, and eager to learn. This dog breed is also suitable for people who are allergic to dog hair. However, the fur needs a lot of attention.
5. Basset griffon vendéen
There are two sizes of this dog breed, the small and the large size. These dogs were often used as hunting dogs. Mainly because of their social character, these dogs are now also popular house dogs. A reliable dog who literally likes to be everywhere you go.
6. French bulldog
The French bulldog is strong and muscular. This dog breed has a broad, flat muzzle and erect ears. The French variant probably descends from the English bulldog. Because of his social character and his good relationship with children, the French bulldog is now a real home dog. These dogs are very guarding.
7. Berger Picard
The Berger Picard has a shaggy coat and a bearded face. This dog breed is characterised by its sense of humour. This dog breed is good at reading people and will respond to physical and emotional needs.
