Recognisable

The things you recognise when you’re single

You’ve been single for so long that just the thought of sharing a bed gives you the creeps. But as it gets colder, you still long for someone to spend the dark days with. Is that recognisable? Then you recognise the rest too!

  1. Your only love

The only love in your life comes from films. and series. Everyone needs a little love in their life sometimes. And if that doesn’t come from your crush, then you need to look elsewhere. And you’ve already binge-watched all those romantic films and series on Netflix to swoon away for a while with all those handsome actors and actresses.

2. Hate Valentine’s Day

February 14th, the day you prefer to avoid all couples that come near you. On that day you prefer to snuggle in your warm bed with a big tub of ice cream, while you look at everything that offers a distaste for Valentine’s Day. Even if you secretly long for a card or rose from your crush, or even from a secret admirer.

3. Family questions

Even your family doesn’t ask about your love life anymore. You’ve been single and not looking for so long that your relatives don’t expect anything from your love life. And when you do meet the love of your life, you can’t wait to see their faces!

4. Sundays

You don’t have to ask any of your friends who’re in a relationship to meet up on Sunday. Because that’s a typical day for couples. You prefer to use Sunday to recover from the busy Saturday evening. You’ve already seen all seasons of your favourite series(s) twice too…

5. Oversized sweaters

Since you don’t have a boyfriend to ‘borrow’ clothes from, you’ve got no choice but to take a look in your father’s closet. He’s a man too, isn’t he?

6. Date without like

Okay, they’re actually not the type you’d normally fall for, but it’s sometimes nice to text someone who wishes you a good morning or good night’s sleep.

7. Hate festive days

An advantage of being single is that you save a lot of money on gifts for your possible love and in-laws. Yet you miss someone to share a Christmas wreath with during these pleasant days. Eating turkey on your own isn’t very pleasant, is it?

8. Hooking up

Not a week goes by without your friends finding another victim to hook you up with. Very sweet, guys, but after the umpteenth attempt you get tired of it. You’d rather take a nap than date. Before a date, you also spend an hour working on your hair and makeup. And when you take a nap, you can at least lie in bed in a relaxed outfit, without makeup. Can’t get any better than that, right?

  1. Lol I loved all of this! Though, I must say my favorite line was “Since you don’t have a boyfriend to ‘borrow’ clothes from, you’ve got no choice but to take a look in your father’s closet. He’s a man too, isn’t he?”
And the line about my only love being fictional – soo true 🤣

  2. So true! It’s not bad being single though. Personally, I like enjoying the time I have to myself before I enter the dating chapter of my life. I love the sort of listing factor you had!
