How to survive a long plane flight?

Are you one of the lucky ones who’ll go on a journey by plane? Awesome! Unfortunately, flying for many hours isn’t always fun and you can quickly get bored. But I did come up with some solutions for that!

  1. Treat yourself

Use a face mask, paint your nails and bring cream that you can apply to your face or body every now and then. The air in a plane is very dry, so it’s important to keep your skin and body well-hydrated. Therefore, also drink enough during the flight. Oh, and you can also put some oil in your hair. Saves a bad hair day when you leave the plane.

2. Films

Now you finally have time to watch all those films you wanted to see. It’s just a nice thought that you can now watch all films (and series) without feeling guilty because you’re not exactly productive. I mean, you’re stuck in the air, aren’t you?

3. Reading

Take a book and a magazine with you on board. The magazine is a pleasure to get through when you don’t want to think too much. The book is for when you want to forget that you’re stuck in a flying machine and want to escape to another world.

4. Bullet journal

Bring a bullet journal with a few pens, pencils and markers. You’ll find that time flies by when you let go of your creative side. Extra fun for when you fly back from your holiday: fill the booklet with memories, photos and tickets of places you’ve been.

5. Sleeping

Get some sleep! And when you wonder ‘how’, there are plenty of hacks that make sleeping during a flight a lot easier. For example, consider an eye mask, earplugs and a neck pillow.

6. Writing

A few ideas: what you’re grateful for, things you look forward to or just your thoughts and feelings. Or write a story! You can do this with pen and paper, but you can also do it online/digitally. There are plenty of sites and apps you can write on!

7. Empty your phone

Scroll through your phone and dump everything you don’t use anymore. For example, think of unnecessary apps, or do a major cleaning of your photo gallery. The latter is also fun, because you bring back a number of memories.

8. Listen to podcasts

Download a few podcasts in advance on your mobile, laptop or tablet. Sit back, relax, close your eyes and listen to all kinds of stories.

9. Gaming

Of course you can also download all kinds of fun games on your mobile, laptop or tablet. Play the old-fashioned Sims or Candy Crush, or look for new games. With gaming you can let go of your thoughts for a while and the time will go by in a heartbeat. Side note: make sure you have a charger with you.

10. Stretching

You shouldn’t sit still for too long, stretching is therefore very important. You can also do this while sitting, for example by turning your ankles in circles (one way, the other way) or take a walk down the aisle.

11. Having a talk

Have a chat with the person next to you! Of course this is easy if you have a nice neighbour, but it’s always nice to get to know that stranger next to you. Of course you can also have people sitting next to you who don’t like to talk during a flight, so you just have to be lucky.

  1. One lady I was sat next to a while back was actually needlepointing on the plane – turns out she was going to visit her grandkids, but that activity ended up being a great conversation starter. Who knew, right?

      1. I am too! It’s not everyday you actually get a nice person in the seat next to you! I was honestly surprised she was able to do the needlepoint in the air – I *totally* would have accidentally pricked myself at least once XD
