I myself don’t use any beauty products, but my friend Jenny does. She has her own beauty salon and often gives advice to her customers on how they can minimise their pores . And so, she’s here to grant her wisdom for free today!
- Use non-comedogenic skin care
You can find it on the packaging of some skin care products and makeup: the term non-comedogenic. It means that the product won’t clog your pores. When your pores become clogged, the pore walls expand, making them bigger and therefore more noticeable.
2. Clean your face twice a day
Clogged pores, oily skin, and the build-up of makeup and dirt can make pores appear larger. Thoroughly cleaning your skin twice a day helps to remove grease and dirt so that the pore walls aren’t under continuous pressure. Preferably use lukewarm water when cleaning: too hot water not only irritates your skin but also makes your pores bigger.
3. Apply a cream with SPF every day
The more the sun has damaged your skin, the less firm your skin will be. Your skin will become a little looser and your pores will look bigger. Applying a cream with a sunscreen every morning – at least SPF 30 – helps prevent further sagging. A night cream with retinol also helps the skin to become slightly firmer, making the pores less noticeable.

4. Don’t scrub, but exfoliate
By exfoliating the skin with, for example, salicylic acid, you remove dead skin cells and sebum from the pores so that they’re less noticeable. When dead skin cells are removed, the skin’s surface immediately looks smoother and more even.
5. Apply a clay mask
Applying a clay mask once or twice a week can help remove extra sebum from the pores. This is because clay absorbs sebum. Alternate exfoliation and the clay mask; try not to do it on the same day as that can irritate sensitive skin.
6. Opt for sebum-absorbing makeup
Absorbing excess sebum won’t clog pores or make them more visible. Mattifying powders do this, both loose and compact powders. Try to avoid thick or heavy makeup as this often clogs the pores and makes them appear larger.
