I love books. Reading them, yes. Writing them? Even more. But that’s not what today’s tag is about. Today’s tag is purely about reading books. Or, you know, maybe I managed to sneak a writing answer in there somewhere 😉 I guess only time, and the answers, will tell!
- How many books are too many for a series?
God, I mean, Harry Potter obviously has 7 books, and I never felt it was too much. I have to admit, that I do prefer trilogies over anything, but the Mortal Instruments books also has 6, and I love every single one of them. I think that it truly depends on what the story is about and how well the writer can keep the reader occupied. Otherwise it’s a flop in itself, of course!
2. How do you feel about cliffhangers?
I kinda have a love/hate relationship with them. It depends on what kind of cliffhanger it is, and how long I’ll have to wait to find out the answer. Then again, it does give me space to start thinking multiple possibilities and I do like speculating. And that’s why it’s a love/hate kinda thing.
3. Hardcover or paperback?
Paperback. It’s easier to hold, and even when having lots of pages, it still feels so weightless in your hands. At least, it does to me. Hardcovers do look more beautiful and have a tendency of long aging, but they’ll never beat the flexibility of a paperback to me.
4. Favourite book?
That’s so hard. I honestly have so many favourites. There’s not an all-time favourite, but I do love IT. That book will probably always, remain my horror favourite.
5. Least favourite book?
I don’t really know honestly. I haven’t really read any ‘bad’ books. Books are never bad, it’s just not to your liking and that’s okay. We all need different likings, for there otherwise wouldn’t be so many books to choose from.
6. Love triangles, yes or no?
Also love/hate relationship with this. It’s always so damn obvious who gets chosen in the end. But it sometimes does have surprising twists that do get me hooked. It again really depends on how the writer initiates this into the storyline. But I do hope that there someday will be one that’s truly surprising from beginning till end.
7. The most recent book you couldn’t finish?
There’s so many I started halfway through and put away after a few days. Not because I didn’t like them, but because life got busy or I had my own book to write. I just don’t really have the focus to officially finish a book, if that makes sense.
8. A book you’re currently reading?
None at the moment. I’m more focused on writing my own sequel. And like I said in the previous answer, I’ve got so many I started, am still reading, and haven’t finished yet.
9. Last book you recommended to someone?
Honestly, my own haha. I mean, which author wouldn’t? It only came out this February, so I think it’s valid to write this one down as I honestly haven’t recommended any others ever since.
10. Oldest book you’ve read by publication date?
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. It was the first book I apparently read as a kid, the second I could read haha. I devoured that book. I didn’t understand everything from the story itself, as I was pretty young, but it definitely was the oldest one I’ve read thus far.
11. Newest book you’ve read by publication date?
My own, again haha. I had to read my own to make sure there were no grammar mistakes left behind and sentences worked well when reading out loud. I know my answers are kinda boring, but I have to be honest, don’t I? And my book is only from February 2021, so there’s that.
12. Favourite author?
Stephen King all the way. He’s my favourite horror author and just in general, my favourite author. I just love most of his books. He’s got such an intriguing way of writing that always gets me hooked and on the edge of my seat. And when you can do that as a writer, you’ve convinced me and I’m sold.
13. Buying books or borrowing books?
I don’t borrow books ever since I lost my library license about 10 years ago. I bought books ever since and I honestly love that way more. I directly support the writer, which is important as an author myself, and I just love the smell of new books. I can’t be the only one on that.
14. A book you dislike that everyone seems to love?
Fifty Shades of Grey. I truly hate sexual fiction. Not for me. Never will be.
15. Bookmarks or dog ears?
Bookmarks all the way. I hate damaging books. The poor trees had to suffer, so I might as well try to take care of the pages while I can. And I just love the many designs you can pick when it comes to bookmarks. There’s always something for everybody.
16. A book you can always re-read?
The entire series of Harry Potter and The Mortal Instruments for sure. I just genuinely love both so freaking much and always return to reading them when there’s nothing left or I just miss my favourite characters.
17. Can you read while listening to music?
Fun fact, I can only read when listening to music. Ever since I did that once, I can’t read without. I mostly do everything I do with music in my ears, so it also includes reading. I hear about people making certain playlists for certain books, but I don’t go that far.
18. One pov or multiple?
Multiple. I like reading from multiple characters’ perspectives. I myself write with multiple povs as well, and I always feel like it gives the reader why more ‘looking into’ the lives of the other characters your protagonist interacts with.
19. Do you read a book in one sitting or over multiple days?
When I was younger and wasn’t a grown-up, I could devour multiple books in one day. Now, I can’t. I truly need full relaxation mode (and that’s not in my life at the moment). So, it’s mostly multiple days, sometimes even weeks. Not because I’m a slow reader (definitely not, I was the top reader of my class and even set a record for speed reading), but because I’m too busy and stressed to focus for multiple minutes after one another when it comes to reading a book.
