Series I recommend watching: Southland

I’ve watched tons of series. On Netflix, television or on DVD. In any case, I thought it’d be fun to share the series I watch and truly recommend watching. With today: Southland.

  • Name of series: Southland
  • Seasons: 5
  • Episodes: 43
  • Published date: April 9, 2009 – April 17, 2013
  • Summary IMDB: The lives of Police Officers working for the Los Angeles Police Department.
  • Trailer:

I gotta be honest, I only started watching this series because of Ben McKenzie being in it, right after I saw the first episode of Gotham about a year ago. Before I started watching Gotham, I finished watching this one and it just gave me a foretaste of his performance in a cop. In any case, I did love the way they made the series. It’s not your average cop series, it’s so much more than that. Which makes it such a hit to watch. I’ll explain more in a bit.

Because the image it gave me during and after watching, is that it’s shown in a way it hasn’t been shown before. Even since. Each episode follows patrol units, gang detectives and homicide detectives. All on a case, a beat or a situation. But it’s more than just that. It’s an honest representation of what they deal with on a daily basis, as well as the struggles they go through in their personal lives. It’s about injuries, addictions, family trouble, even PTSD. It’s done with such realism, which makes you truly invested and feel for the cops. Also, fun facts: they made all the actors go to LAPD Boot Camp and many of the extras used, are actual LAPD cops.
