Game review: Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

I’ve recently started a new game on my Twitch channel. I’ve wanted to play this game for so long as I’m a Star Wars nerd, but never got to it I travelled to the second planet in the game and are slowly learning how all the buttons work. So, I think it’s time to write my review. May the force be with you!

Set shortly after Revenge of the Sith, the player takes on the role of a Jedi padawan being hunted by the Empire after Order 66.

You’re playing as Cal Kestis, a Force-sensitive human male who became a Jedi Knight during the reign of the Galactic Empire. As one of the few Jedi who survived the purge that destroyed the Jedi Order, Cal lived in seclusion for years until a confrontation with the Inquisitorius compelled him to openly resist the Empire’s Rule. Haunted across the galaxy by the Empire’s Jedi Hunters, Cal embraces his connection to the Force once more, decided to restore the Jedi Order. On your journey, you meet Cere, Greez and the little droid BD-1.

You have your very own lightsaber fighting against ‘monsters’ such as Oggdo Bogdo. Rabid Jotaz. Albino Wyyyschokk. Nydak Alpha, and many more. You also fight against Stormtroopers, Darth Vader and the ‘Sisters.’ There are, just as with Spider-Man, many moves you can use as Cal, obviously picking them when you’ve got enough skill points.

There are three subjects you can get skills in: force, lightsaber and survival. You gain it by fulfilling the game’s missions, defeating enemies and finding secrets throughout the game on the planets you visit. To get to the skill tree, you have to find a meditation point. Now, those are hard to find and are the only spots to save the game. So, if you die and have to respawn, you’re send all the way back to the last known meditation location. It’s the only thing I dislike about the game. Especially in the beginning, as you don’t have much stims from BD-1, you die easily when not dodging enough and knowing the controls well. But it’s also a ‘unique’ thing, so I’ll try to not be too annoyed by it 😉

Fallen Order has a total of eight worlds to visit across the course of the game, but not all are equally large or equally explorable. Once unlocked, there are five worlds which can be revisited and meaningfully explored – Bogano, Zeffo, Kashyyyk, Dathomir and Ilum. The other three are essentially singular missions that cannot be revisited once completed, and don’t hold any collectables to be found.

You’re travelling with the Mantis, and you can update the colour throughout the game. You can also update your lightsaber with sleeve, colour and other adds and change Cal’s clothing appearance, same for BD-1. You collect these through boxes and other secrets.

I do find the controls a bit hard, but maybe that’s just me and not spending enough time (seeing as with Spider-Man for example, I fought with criminals without streaming, and here I can’t. Then again, I do play it twice a week. I don’t know, I do read online that it’s not an easy game, but it needs effort. The only thing that annoys me is the earlier mentioned meditation points being the only spot to save. Then again, it doesn’t make me love the game less. The graphics are beautiful, the planets are beautiful and the monsters are… well, highly annoying as they’re trying to kill you. But the protagonist always gets attacked and has enemies 😉

I shall give Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, 4 out of 5 stars!
