Every once in a while, everyone gets to deal with a headache. They’re extremely annoying and are hard to take care of. But, I got a few tips to try to get rid of them or at least lessen the pain. So, let’s dive in!
- Use a cold pack
If you have a migraine, place a cold pack on your forehead. What you can use? Ice cubes wrapped in a towel, a bag of frozen peas/meat or even a cold shower may lessen the pain. Keep the cold pack on your head for about 15 minutes and take a break afterwards, for about 15 minutes.
2. Use a heating pad/hot compress
If you have a tension headache, place a heating pad/hot compress on your neck or the back of your head. When you have a sinus headache, hold a warm cloth to the area that hurts. A warm shower might also work.
3. Ease pressure on scalp or head
If you wear a hat, headband or swimming goggles and you experience a headache, it might be too tight. The same goes for having a ponytail. Make sure to give your head ‘breathing space.’
4. Dim lights
Bright or flickering light (especially from devices) can cause migraine headaches. Cover your windows with blackout curtains during the day and wear sunglasses outdoors. Add anti-glare screens to your computer and use daylight-spectrum fluorescent bulbs in lamps and such.

5. Don’t chew
Chewing gum hurts your jaw at times, but it also hurts your head. Same goes for chewing fingernails, the insides of your cheeks or objects like pens. Avoid crunchy and sticky foods and take small bites. If you suffer from early-morning headaches due to grinding your teeth at night, you should ask your dentist to give you a mouth guard.
6. Caffeine
Have some tea, coffee or something with a little caffeine in it. If you take it early enough, it could ease your headache pain. Just, don’t drink too much of it. Why? Because caffeine withdrawal can cause its own type of headaches.
7. Relax
It could be stretching, yoga, meditation or progressive muscle relaxation. Learning how to chill whilst having a headache can help to ease the pain.
8. Massage
You can do it yourself or ask someone. A few minutes massaging your neck and temples can help ease a tension headache. How you get a tension headache in the first place? Stress.

9. Ginger
You can take a ginger supplement or maybe brew some ginger tea.
10. Medicine
Sure, pharmacy shelves are stocked with pain relievers for all kinds of headaches. But, always make sure to follow the directions on the label. Choose liquid over pills. Your body will absorb it faster. Take painkillers as soon as you feel pain. It’s easy to beat with a smaller dose.
What do you do to get rid of your headache?

Tried multiple times, doesn’t really work. Aspirin, sleep and it’s gone (meerdere malen geprobeerd, werkt niet echt. Aspirine, slaap en het is over)

Als dat helpt is dat ook goed. Spijtig dat het niet werkt voor je.

It’s okay! Anything works differently on others (das niet erg, alles werkt nu eenmaal anders bij anderen)
