Series I recommend watching: Band of Brothers

I wanted to start a new kind of series on my blog. I’ve watched tons of series. On Netflix, television or on DVD. In any case, I thought it’d be fun to share the series I watch and truly recommend watching. With today, one I have to put at number 1: Band of Brothers.

  • Name of series: Band of Brothers
  • Seasons: 1
  • Episodes: 10
  • Published date: 2001
  • Summary IMDB: The story of Easy Company of the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division, and their mission in World War II Europe, from Operation Overlord, through V-J Day.
  • Trailer:

This series is wonderfully orchestrated, beautifully done with the real-life heroes at the beginning of each episode. Though, I wished they’d put names so we know who they were/are. Then again, it would also give away who does survive the series and who doesn’t. Anyway, I’m getting off-topic. I’ve always had respect for the soldiers who gave their lives in WOII, but I know there are many people out there who don’t. For those, I really recommend watching this series. It shows the pain they go through, the things they did for our freedom. The lives we lost along the way, the brothers they lost along the way. They show every part of Easy Company’s journey. Starting as new trainees, becoming one of the best Paratrooper companies the US Army has ever seen. This series really pays tribute to those men who give their tomorrow’s so we can live today. We see them going through the Normandy landings, through Market Garden, The Battle of the Bulge and on into Germany. I salute each and every man in that series. I hope they will never be forgotten. I believe they should show this in school during history class. It lets them understand and appreciate the sacrifices that were made. Yes, it does have some pretty horrific scenes for those who have a weak stomach, but it’s the hardcore, awful reality of what those poor soldiers went through. Also, there’s lots of humour in it to lighten the mood from time to time. After all, the soldiers were human. Yes, they had orders to kill people, but they did it for our freedom. And some show how much guilt they carry with them throughout the series. Those who lose their friends, show how much pain that loss can cost, especially when you’ve spend two years fighting alongside them. And the realisation that they’ll never come back died like heroes, and it could happen to you too.

Also, there are some pretty big names in this series as well, if you’re one to only watch series with well-known actors in them. What about Damian Lewis, Tom Hardy, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Ron Livingston, David Schwimmer, Simon Pegg, Jimmy Fallon, Colin Hanks, Andrew Scott, Dominic Cooper, Donnie Wahlberg, Jamie Bamber, Stephen Graham, Michael Cudlitz and even Tom Hanks as a cameo (though he was the producer alongside Steven Spielberg for this series). And of course many more amazing actors.
