Washing your hair might be the daily business for you and you might do it without thinking. But it’s more than only using shampoo and conditioner. Do you want to know how you wash your hair properly and in the right way? Then read along!
1. Start brushing your hair
If you brush your hair after you’re done washing, you should consider doing that first. That way, you won’t have any tangles in your hair and you don’t need to brush it when it’s wet. Start at the bottom of your hair and work your way up.
2. Water temperature is key
Do you like taking hot showers? Your hair doesn’t like this as much as you do. The same goes for cold water. Why? Because your hair won’t get clean while using cold water. It’s kind of a gamble, but lukewarm water should work.
3. Find the right shampoo
Is your hair dry and does it feel like a rope? Buy yourself some mild shampoo to deal with this. For curls, you obviously use a shampoo that’s specifically made for curls. The acidity of shampoo has a lot of influence on the condition of your hair, as shown by scientific research. The pH value of shampoo is approximately between 3.0 and 9.0. The shampoo is considered mild if it has a low pH value (less than 5.5). Chemicals cause your hair to dry out. The best thing you can do is buy a shampoo that has more natural ingredients than added ones.
4. Use the right amount of shampoo
The more shampoo, the cleaner your hair? No, that’s not how it works. It’s better to use as little shampoo as possible. You should apply the size of a coin onto your hand. When your hair is thick and/or long, then you can, of course, use a bit more.
5. Divide the shampoo over your entire head and hair
Massage your head softly with your fingertips. If you’ve got long hair, make sure to not get all of your hair onto your head. This will cause those tangles to come back. You know, the ones you just brushed out of your hair. Wash your hair just as long until you see no more shampoo sticking around. If something does stay behind, it’ll cause a ‘greasy shine’ onto your hair. Make sure to wash your hair with some cold water afterwards. Do this to close the ‘scales’ of your hair. Now it’ll become less fluffy and shine more.
6. Use conditioner
You don’t necessarily need to wash your hair every day. Especially not with shampoo. It’s enough to do this 1 or two times a week. Shampoo keeps your hair clean. But, if you want, you can use the conditioner more often. This will take care of your hair, making it soft and shiny.
7. Dry your hair carefully
When your hair is wet, it’s very vulnerable. Dry your hair carefully and dab carefully with a towel onto your hair, instead of rubbing hard. There are tons of towels for sale who’re specifically made for wet hair, making sure not to damage your hair.
